Triethylene Glycol, also known as 2,2鈥� 鈥� (ethylenedioxy) Diethanol and TEG is a colourless, odourless viscous liquid. It is known for its hygroscopic quality (a substance that takes and holds moisture from its surroundings) and ability to dehumidify fluids. The latter makes this product particularly useful in the gas industry, where it removes water from natural gas pipelines.
Triethylene Glycol is also used in high temperature heat transfer systems and used in the manufacturing of solvents and resins. Other uses include as a mild disinfectant given its antimicrobial activity against airborne microbes - hence its use in many air-based disinfection and odour removal products.
